At Sunshine and Saltwater, we believe that sustainability should be at the forefront of any business, no matter how small. That's why I'm committed to minimizing our carbon footprint and reducing textile waste in any way I can. One of the ways I achieve this is by using Direct To Film (DTF) and Screen Printed Film for our apparel printing process.
Not only do these methods allow me to do short runs and on-demand printing, which reduces unwanted inventory, but they also have many environmental benefits. For instance, DTF printing conserves water, making it a much more efficient and sustainable option compared to traditional screen printing. Screen printing requires water to rinse screens and clean equipment, which leads to substantial water usage. DTF printing, on the other hand, does not use any water in the printing process, making it an eco-friendly option that helps conserve this precious resource.
Another significant advantage of DTF printing is chemical reduction. In screen printing, chemicals are often used to etch screens and remove ink, which can generate hazardous waste that can harm the environment. DTF printing, however, does not require these chemicals, making it a safer and more sustainable option.
DTF printing also generates less waste overall than screen printing. In screen printing, paper and screens are used as intermediaries between the ink and the fabric, leading to significant waste generation. DTF printing eliminates these intermediaries, resulting in less waste overall.
Finally, DTF printing is more energy-efficient than screen printing, which often uses gas-powered presses. Digital printers used in DTF printing are typically powered by electricity, making it a more sustainable option with a lower carbon footprint.
At Sunshine and Saltwater, I'm committed to doing my part to reduce my environmental impact, and using DTF and Screen Printed Film for our apparel printing process is just one of the many ways I'm making that happen.
By choosing to support sustainable businesses like mine, you're making a difference in protecting the planet and ensuring a brighter future for all.
Thank you, Mahalo, Sunshine & Shakas,
